Motivated Learners

     

     Human beings are psychologically motivated; from the first to the last breath taken, what is felt emotionally from what is sensed determines behavior. Operating on this principle, caregivers, practitioners, and teachers must commit to preparing learning environments for those in care at HMT that excite sense, which causes curiosity in children. For this reason, it is necessary—no, imperative that HMT employ individuals who can connect with others in a way that is devoid of self-interest, who strive toward that which Damon describes as “purpose” in life. He proposes, “Purpose is a stable and generalized intention to accomplish something both meaningful to the self and of consequence to the world beyond the self” (Damon, William, 2003, p. 9). The consequences that HMT strives to effect result in personal exhilaration of accomplishment triggered by a sense of service that lifts humanity, ‘bridging personal breakthrough.’
